Successful Commissioning: FRANK-PTI Delivers BCT Box Compression Tester to Straub-Verpackungen

We were pleased to recently deliver a state-of-the-art BCT box compression tester to our valued customer, Straub-Verpackungen GmbH (www.straub-verpackungen.de). The company, which specializes in the production and testing of packaging solutions, is taking its quality assurance to the next level.

Reliable Testing with the BCT Box Compression Tester

The BCT box compression tester from FRANK-PTI is a high-precision testing device for determining the compression strength of cardboard boxes. It enables accurate measurements of packaging load capacity and plays a central role in the quality assurance of corrugated packaging—especially for hazardous goods.

Straub-Verpackungen, a recognized testing facility for dangerous goods packaging by the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), uses the new BCT testing machine for two defined testing standards:

   - Box Compression Test (BCT) according to DIN EN ISO 55440-1
   - Static Load Testing according to DIN ISO 2234

Only finished, but unfilled packages are tested on the machine to ensure both material quality and manufacturing meet the highest standards.

Expanded Testing Capacity with the BCT Tester

The company is complementing its predecessor model while expanding its testing capabilities with additional compression tests. The BCT (Box Compression Test) determines the stability of a package by measuring its maximum load capacity. The BCT value is expressed in Newtons (N).

The decision to invest in the new BCT box compression tester was primarily driven by the need to increase testing capacity. With this additional equipment, testing processes can be handled more efficiently, and the growing number of test orders can be processed faster. Straub-Verpackungen thus optimizes its quality testing workflow and ensures smooth test execution.

As part of a planned modernization of the in-house laboratory, older testing devices will be gradually replaced or supplemented in the coming years. This investment in cutting-edge testing technology marks an important step toward future-proof quality assurance.
